About the choir
The Kensington Chamber Choir is an ambitious new auditioned amateur choir in the London music scene. It was born in Summer 2022 as Fulham Chamber Choir (formerly based in St. John’s Church, Fulham) from the desire to explore rarely performed repertoire and offer our singers a unique musical experience.
What makes it unique?
The KCC benefits from its proximity to the Royal College of Music and the Imperial College, which allowed us to attract students and alumni from these institutions as member of the choir. Young aspiring professional singers, as well as trained instrumentalists who love to sing, support and guide enthusiastic amateurs with solid musicianship and vocal technique.
Furthermore, understanding the historical and cultural context of each piece is also an essential part of the Kensington Chamber Choir’s experience. Our repertoire moves within and beyond the boundaries of Western Classical Music, and we aim to give informed interpretations of this broad range of styles. Our director Gerardo Gozzi, a composer and trained choral conductor, is also an academic professor at the Royal College of Music. We draw from his expertise to understand how to distinguish the delivery of different styles (classical, romantic, modernist, contemporary, among others).
Where and when?
The choir’s rehearsals are generously hosted by Holy Trinity Church in South Kensington, just a 10-minute walk from South Kensington tube station, and close to the Royal Albert Hall. This South Ken historic landmark is an ideal environment for music making. It has a generous acoustics and a flexible plan, which allows us to explore different spatial distributions for rehearsals and concerts.
We rehearse on Wednesday evening, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm, following the academic calendar. We will regularly host intensive choral workshops opened to non-members, who can join us to have a taste of our style.
